Quand on sera Seuls is an experimental film that combines the languages of art in unusual ways. Set in a dystopian future where most of the animal and plant kingdoms have become extinct and what remains of humanity survives in small, isolated groups, the film tells the story of a group of survivors. The protagonists, who have lost language as we know it, speak in quotations from the science of evolution, ethology, philosophy, and literature (with texts from Darwin to Lorenz, Materlinck, Ovid, and Derrida) and attempt to send radio messages in the hope that someone will hear them. The existential void left by the disappearance of the animal world changes the survivors; their bodies and instincts transform, rediscovering their animal nature. With melancholy and sometimes irony, the protagonists find themselves embodying the animals that have now disappeared from the earth: fighting like gorillas in the savannah, like fish in lakes, like deer in the woods, or dancing like birds of paradise. Quand on sera seuls uses the language of cinema, that of nature documentary, and the acting techniques of theater and dance to transport the viewer into the dystopia of a nightmarish future. The result of the collaboration of film director Michele Cinque and theater director Daria Lippi, as well as the entire cast, the film respects the experimental themes from which it draws to create an original anti-narrative structure and thus stimulate critical reflection on the risks of the near future.
