Giorgio Calcaterra is a 37 year-old taxi driver from Rome. His life and daily routine are rather predictable, both made up of customers, meter clicks and traffic jams. Giorgio’s life, however, isn’t solely made of the thousands of kilometers he covers throughout the streets of Rome: long distance running is Giorgio Calcaterra’s greatest passion. Encouraged by his father, on March 14, 1982, at 10 years of age, Giorgio entered his first race. He never stopped running from that moment on; from a child who was in love with running, this long journey turned him into a top runner who has won myriad races and set many records. After his disappointing results over the previous editions in Seoul, South Korea and in Winschoten, the Netherlands, a great opportunity arises for Calcaterra: this time the World Championship is an hour and a half drive from Rome. Surrounded by affection and praise, Giorgio can’t betray the “tribe” of amateur runners, from which he also comes, and decides to face the greatest challenge of his life.
